What is and why use a buyers' agent?

Buyers' agents represent the property buyer in a real estate purchase in which the seller is usually represented by a full time professional real estate agent or realtor who markets and negotiates the sale of the property.

Buyers' agent is the name used in Sydney for such property buyers. World-wide they are known as a buyers' agent realtor, buyers' advocate, property buyer or property finder.

Would you represent yourself in court when the other side has a barrister? If not, why then would you represent yourself in a large and risky transaction where the other side is represented by a professional whose full time business is to act contrary to your interests by maximising the sale price?

Seen this way, there really is only one question: "If I want to reverse that bargaining position, can I afford not to have a buyers' agent, buyers' advocate or property finder on my side?"
