Monthly Sydney Property Insights

A three-storey mansion in Vaucluse is priced at a whopping $60 million – a price tag which could make it the most expensive home sold in Australia.

Set in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, the house covers over 2000 square metres, with 9 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. It’s currently being renovated and will be finished in three to four months. It offers panoramic views of the city and was bought for $6.1 million in 1997 by Andrew Ipkendanz, an international bank consultant.

Altona, a mansion in Sydney’s Point Piper, sold for $54 million in May 2013. It has a waterfront view, 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. In 2009, a house in Perth sold for $57.5 million to Chris Ellison, a mining magnate. The property currently holds the house price record in Australia.

If the Vaucluse property sells for $60 million, it would become Australia’s most expensive-selling house. However, industry experts doubt that it will sell for its asking price because it’s situated in a less expensive suburb compared to Point Piper. The property is also set on a waterfront reserve in a tight street.
