Kyko Group’s sustainable refurbishment of its Sydney office building is driven by tenant demand.

Kyko Group bought the 1969 building in 2007, which has 17 levels and is tenanted by law firms and financial services companies. Current and prospective tenants wanted a more sustainable building, so the refurbishment began in 2011. The refurbishment includes improving the efficiency of the air conditioning and electrical systems, and sustainable design and initiatives.

The sustainability upgrades were designed to achieve Property Council of Australia A-Grade standards. After the refurbishment, the building is expected to gain a 4.5-star NABERS rating compared to its previous 0-star rating. Also, with poor environmental credentials, the aim of Kyko Group was to improve the building’s energy efficiency and sustainability. The building received a 4-star Green Star rating, which is essential for green buildings.

According to Richard Huynh, Kyko Group’s development manager, the upgrades were also designed to future-proof the company’s assets and to ensure the building reflects market trends.
